filmmusic

Everyone that knows me, knows I’m a huge fan of film music or film scorew, but TV and video scores. I can listen to variety of music genres, but my favorites are film tv scores, metaland hiphop.

Today I will talk about film music.its the music you hear when you watch a movie or TV show or when playing a video game. It’s music specifically made for various scenes or ao to create a.mood. the genre where this is the most difficult in my opinion is that of the horror genre. There its very important that the music enhances the film or it riska ruining it altogether. The American remake of The Grudge had no score in it probably for this very reason.
Filmmusic is something special. Every music is connected to a scene. In tv shows, sometimes one musical piece is reused for something else. an example of this being the works of Joseph Lo Duca for the shows Hercules The Legendary Journeys and Xena Warrior Princess. in the second tv movie of Hercules, there is a musical score that accompanies the battle with the Blue Priest, that is called Battle with the Blue Priest, but the same track, albeit a piece of it is later reused in Xena. I don’t think this has anything to do with being lazy. Joseph Lo Duca is a talented musician. His discography proves it. He colloborated several times with Sam Raimi for tv or movie:  Evil Dead franchise (movie and tv shows, not the remake), Hercules the legendary Journeys, Xena Warrior Princess, Young Hercules, Spartacus series, Ash vs Evil Dead, etc…. It think it has moe to do budgetwise than talentwise.
Up and till few years before Hercules the legendary journeys, it wasn’t common for musicians scoring music for tv shows to use a orchestra. That changed with Space Above and Beyond and Babylon 5.
One person who really amazed me with his work is Ramin Djawadi. His score for Clash of the Titans was ok, but he really blew me away with his work for the show Game of Thrones. what he did there was epic. From beginning to end, his music was key to the show. His music never overstayed their welcome, nor was it out of tune with the scene. His first break came with Prison Break which was a hit show, than he was enlisted to score Iron Man, Clash of the Titans, Game of Thrones, Warcraft, Pacific Rim, Person of Interest and Westworld. Each time he made valuable contributions to the show. Here and there you hear influences from Hans Zimmer flowing through his music. which is understandable considering Hans Zimmer has made a huge impact on film music for the last 30 years or so.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge Hans Zimmer fan. I love his work for his movies. The man has alot of influence in the film industry, especially when it comes to scoring for films. Which has it benefit but also a downside. Where one person of group has to much influence, the music will suffer for it. While I think the music of Hans Zimmer and co is great, diversity is key to make sure that the scores for tv, film and video games are of high standard. They are still now in my opinion.
My favorite composers are alan Silvestri for his work on Predator 1 & 2, The Mummy Returns, Beowulf, Howard Shore for the Lord of the rings and The Hobbit franchise, Brian Tyler for AvP: Requem, Iron Man 3, Thor: Dark World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jospeph Lo Duca for his work that i previously mention, Gerard Marino for his God of War scores, Tyler Bates for God of War Ascension, and a bit 300, Junki XL for the excellent 300: Rise of an Empire, Deadpool, Mad Max Fury Road, his collaboration with Hans Zimmer for Man of Steel and the Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Robert Krall for Angel: the tv series, Robert Duncan for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, John Ottman for his work on X-men franchise, Trevor Morris for his work on Vikings and the film Immortals.
That’s about it. If you thought I was going to discuss which instrument was used in which score, you were sorely mistaken. I don’t know which instruments were used, but I do like the music.
