There has been written alot of on the subject of immigration. Its usually very emotionally subject. Why? Becayse people view immigration as something bad, as in people move to other countries with bad intentions. Sure, there are those who do that. But that is a minority that draws all the focus.
The truth is that immigration is not something you can stop. Its almost impossible to stop. No wall or border security can completly stop immigration. Mass migrations can destabilize nations as seen in the past.
For as long as there are people and nations, people will migrate. To find a better life, to escape the hardships of their home country, war, famine, disease, …..
People will be drawn to other nations where life is good, to find a better life for themselves. This is completely human to do that or to want that.
Cultures can not stay homogenous. Its unhealthy and unnatural. There will always be influences from outside. People migrating is beneficial. It brings other points of view of living to another culture. It widens the worldview of a culture.
Since the late 19th century something else came up that abuses immigration. Where life is good in capitalistic countries, where the wages are decent to good to live and thrive on, people will be drawn to it. In developped capitalistic countries, this is actually used to create a surplus of workers for working in factories, etc… This surplus is used to divide the working class and have the workers compete with each other. The captains of industry pay those immigrants less than the people who already live and work there, to create a rift between the two groups of people.
If immigrants are payed less than the rest, they are favored by the captains of industry because they cost less to hire. This in itself create fear and hatred for this new group of people, who basicly want the same thing as the rest do.
They want a decent paycheck, to escape poverty, to provide for their families, create a better life for themselves. In this, they are no different than indigenous people. This is what they have in common. This is what unites all people.
Why the fear of immigration?
Many people fear that immigrants will steal away their jobs, their future, their culture. This is fueled by far right to further divide the people. If people realized that if the captains of industry would pay those immigrants the same wages as they have, than there would be no competition, no division, no fears,…
A good paycheck combined with a good education is necessary to escape poverty. Enough social housing should be sufficient to house the newcomers but also those who need it. If there are enough social housing, than the private market is also affected by it in such a way that the prices come down instead of up like it is now. This is way they don’t want to build more social houses. If they do that, than homeowners are forced to lower the rents that they can charge.
Right now, the rents of private market are in most big cities high, to high for people to live alone. which is why they flock together to be able to pay the rent. Buying for ordinary people is almost impossible.
If the paychecks go down or stay the same, but the rent and life in general becomes more expensive, than this will create a crisis. You already see it in the US where home owners evict people with jobs but don’t earn enough to pay their rent and life from it. Its not enough to pay your rent and your bills. You should earn enough to life from it, not enough to survive of it. Whats the point of a paycheck if you have enough to survive but can not do anything else?
Lets circle back to immigration. The far right uses migration as the source of all evil, but what people need to realize that migration is not the bad guy. Migration is inescapable. It enriches the culture and the people who meet new culture, new people. some people fear this because they fear the unknown. Fear of Islam is no different than fear of Christianity back at the height of the Roman empire, who sought to destabilize the Roman empire. Well the radical Christians were. Most of them wanted to be left alone.
The far right uses this fear to put people against each other. This comes to the benefit of the capitalists, who uses the far right to divide the people. Its easy for them to rule over them, than allow people to unite against them. Divide and conquer.
The real problem arises when the country and the elite are so divided that this will lead to revolution or civil war. How the outcome of such a thing will be, time can only tell.
