well, the last episodes have been aired and i was sad to see it go. It was a stellar season, with a great story about love, destiny, family, sacrifice. For those who haven’t seen the last couple of episodes, i won’t spoil it for you. My expactation was that the penultimate episode would be the one to conclude the story of Imoogi and Yeon and the last one being the epilogue. I was correct. I was surprised by the penultimate episode. There were twists that I did not see coming.
The final confrontation between Imoogi and Yeon was well done and beautifully shot. I was on the edge of my seat watching the whole thing go down. Even with the last episode, I had that experience. During the last episode I must admit, i got a bit emotional. If you see it, you will know what I’m talking about.
The themes i mentioned earlier are part of the story. Yeon was destined to love her, as she was his first live reincarnated, the connection between his adversary and his lover, his brother who pestered him, but in the end would have given up everything for his brother, even though he had helped Imoogi in the past trying to bring him down. The last couple of episodes they tried to redeem Rang from his past sins against his brother. This is where the family theme comes in. Not just with Rang but also with Ji Ah Nam She was searching for her missing parents. That story got concluded but it showed how important family is to the characters.Which is understandable considering that eastern Asian countries are very conservative and family orientated.
Watching Korean tv shows or movies can be different because of the cultural difference. The fight scenes in this show was well executed and choreagraphed, but it is noticable when the face of the actor is not shown, it immediatly means that the stuntmen is put in place to perform the fight scenes. The violence is bit different if you are used to the violence in Game of Thrones, Spartacus, etc…
The romance sequences are pretty mild compared to the west. It has more to do with the cultural differences than anything. Still, i was thrilled to see Yeon and Ji Ah get together. It was thrilling to see them connect and see the relationship evolve right before my eyes. That was one of the highlights of this show. Im glad that they did that and in the way they did it.
