Hotel Del Luna review K-drama

My first introduction to k-drama was with Tale of Nine-tailed. A superb show with a good caste and a excellent story and characters. To fully understand what they were talking about you had to know a lot about Korean religion and myths. Still, even though I did not knew anything about either of them, I still enjoyed this show.

Now, Hotel Del Luna is my second k-drama show that I’m watching. It’s not bad. It’s easier accessible than Tale of Nine-tailed.
The show revolves around a hotel owner by Man-Wol who hired a new manager, man called Chang-Sun. apologies if I miswrote the names.
What’s is different about the hotel is that the hotel serves as a gateway to the afterlife for ghosts.
What’s hoofdgerecht is that you can sense that it’s part of a larger world that isn’t explored but it’s there. I’m now at episode 11 and haven’t spotted any continuity errors. One theme that brought on is the theme of reincarnation. It’s clear that its very important to Koreans
we are introduced to the staff of the hotel. While they are distinct characters that are fleshed out, I can remember the names.
The romance is no different than with the other show I mentioned earlier. The character of Man-Wol sometimes irritate me. The music they use when she is angry or upset is either poorly chosen or used to illicit laughter from the viewer. It isn’t really music but more sound effects I guess. I find it annoying. That’s my take on it.
The overal story here is the romance between Man-wol en Chang-Sun and the eventual departure of Man-wol from this world.
The effects innige various ghosts throughout the series is nicely done. The ghost in episode 7 reminded me of the spirit of Samara from
the Ring, which was based of a Japanese horror movie.
Another issue -for me at least is that the runtime of some of the episodes. For me it feels that some of the episodes are stretched to long. An issue I didn’t have with Tale of Nine-tailed. The problem is that some episodes feel to long and others are just right. Maybe it’s a standard of the K-drama that episodes are like movies? I don’t know.
overal it’s entertaining, horror light. It’s a show I can recommend.
