With great interest I watched the season of Wandavision. The name itself comes from two different MCU heroes Wanda and Vision.
The show centres around Wanda and Vision trying to life ordinary lives in a small US town called Westview.
The first few episodes were in black and white and were heavily influenced by sitcoms throughout the years. As the show progressed, we found out something is off. And indeed it is. Wanda has taken a entire town hostage, forcing them to life out storylines from old sitcoms.
Sword, an organisation like SHIELD wants Monica Rombeau to investigate it along with Jimmy Woo. They learned that Wanda broke into a SWORD facility and stole Vision’ body and brought him to life.
What is interesting about this show is that it tries to do something new that the MCU hasn’t done before. In that they have succeeded. We learn more about Wanda and what she is. Through flashbacks we learn that she is a scarlet witch, a being more powerful than anything treat has come before. So the staff of Loki with the
mindstone didn’t have her powers. She already had them. The stone just woke them up and have her brother powers. Wanda is a fascinating character. She endured so much. At a young age, she and her brother lost their parents. When she was grown up, she lost her brother in the battle of Sokovia against Ultron. Then in Infinity War she lost her love Vision. When she was brought back, she was powerful enough to take on Thanos.
Her neighbour Agnes, turned out to be a witch Agatha Harkness, who absorbes magic when it is used against her. Similar to Peter and Sylar from Heroes but differently.
Agatha was drawn to her power and wanted to learn more about it.upon confronting her, she mentions the Darkhold (also shows up in Agents of Shield but is totally different here from that version), where the scarlet witch is mentioned. By the end of the series, she is not only Wanda but also the scarlet witch and has learned new things about her power. Before meeting Agatha, Wanda thought she had received her power from
the mindstone. Now through Agatha , she learns that this is not the case, that the mindstone only woke it up. I didn’t read the comics so I don’t know what this might mean. What I do know is that this show ties into Docter Strange 2, where Wanda will make an appearance.
The finale was both action packed and a emotional rollercoaster because Wanda is forced to give her fantasy life up for the real world. The only question remains. Is Wanda becoming the next big villain of the MCU next to Kang? Only time will tell. One thing is for sure. Wanda has done some questionable things on Westview. While it was to process her grief, it does do something that most MCU films won’t do. Show a shade of grey to one of their heroes. Wanda is morning. When you morn you are capable of doing questionable things as Wanda proved it.Wanda may unintentionally did some questionable things like holding a entire town hostage so she could live a perfect life.I doubt that this was truly intentionally done but more out of lack of understanding how her powers truly work. After she learns the truth, she is forced between making the decision of tearing the fantasy world down and set the people free and lose her family again or keep it and keep her family. That’s not a easy choice to make for no one.
