Freedom of speech. It gives you the right to say what’s on your mind, but it also gives the right to the other party to criticise what you said.
What most don’t seem to realise is that freedom of speech does not mean that it gives you the right to say stuff that will hurt others in any way. Actually it stops when you actively try to limit the freedom of others.
It’s one thing to say that you don’t respect a politician, it’s totally different to wishing them death or harm. That is not ok. That’s illegal.
If I were to say that I don’t agree with the view of a politician and thinks he’s an idiot. I can say that. I’m expressing my view and how I see him. I can even say that I don’t respect the man for his beliefs. It’s within my right. I don’t want to undermine his freedom or anything. His supporters can criticise me for it. I don’t have a problem with it. It’s part of the game.
From what I can gather. Those supporters tend to be personal, trying to insult my intelligence, me as a person and even more childlike is to laugh at how many followers I have on Twitter. To them that seem to be a legit reason to discredit someone’s statement. It’s joke really. I don’t take it personally because they don’t know me, I don’t know them so their criticism hold no merit. It doesn’t have any substance either.
and those very people want to have the right to say what they want, but whine when they get attacked for saying racist, homophobic stuff.Than they get real defensive and childish that the other parties can say whatever they want and they can’t.
The thing is, the far right has done nothing these last few decades than attack other people for their points of view, that they immature, naive, that they view the world through rosy eyes. They have acted like bullies and than they demand to be treated nicely. Fuck that. If you act like a asshole, you get treated like a asshole. It’s that simple. There are still boundaries of course. Those are wishing someone ill or death or bodily harm. That’s not ok. Other than that, no one has to accept the intolerance of closed-minded people. We can try to educate them. But if it seems that it doesnt going to work, we have to stop that and treat them accordingly.
Its useless to treat closeminded people decent if they don’t do the same to you.
One thing that pops up when discussing things with close minded people that they tend to speak of a woke dictatorship. Woke is a term the right wing came up to attack people who are more sensitive to certain terms that are hurtful towards others.
That’s the thing witht he right wing, far right or alt-right. They want to speak their truth, but don’t want any criticism. if the left speak their truth, than they are the first to attack them. But the other way around, that’s not done. Its typical for a bully to act this way and those people are bullies. They attack anyone who isn’t like them or with them. They abuse freedom of speech to say hurtful, derogatory things. They don’t seem to think that it works that way. That’s why i advocate a more different way of dealing with them. If they are friendly, we can friendly to, but the moment they cross the lines, the friendliness stops. They accuse us of being to soft, but if we act this way, they are surprised especially now, when the right gets criticized, they use “woke” “cancel culture” as in freedom of speech is under attack. What really is happening is that the right and alt-right wants the right to say whatever they want and they don’t want to be criticized for it. When it does happen, they resort to called it woke.Woke is the new stop word for the right and alt-right as a way to undermine anything that is happening that they don’t like.now a group of academics have started a hotline for wokeism within the academic community and called it “Hypatia”. Now I don’t know if they know the story about this woman, but I found it ironic that they chose the name for their anti-woke hotline of a woman who was brutally murdered by Christians for having another faith, being intelligent and was a teacher. Is the irony of that not lost on them? The thing is, those who use the word woke are the ones doing the cancelling most of the time. .
Recently I got in an argument with someone who thinks he has the right to call religious people deluded and their religion false. He can think so, but saying it, it is something else.If you want to start a debate about religion, that you are an atheist, you can say like that you don’t believe in a deity. That is ok. Bur its not ok to state to someone that their religion is false, and that you don’t respect their religion, you are asking for a confrontation. nowadays polytheists get ridiculed by Christians or atheists when we express our beliefs or state what we believe in.If you want to be treated with respect, learn to respect others.
Freedom of speech doesn’t give you the right ti disrespect others, insult others and hide behind “freedom of speech”. Freedom of speech gives you the right to speak your mind, but it stops when you hurt other people with your words. When that happens, adapt, apologize if needed.
