when they announced it, I was excited. I loved the movie Day of the Dead by George Romero. Its one of the best zombie movies out there. The remakes were terrible. The last one was really bad.
Anyway the trailer looked funny so i thought it would give it a chance. As The Walking Dead is coming to an end and neither the spinoffs were that great. Do we really need a new zombi show?
If the first two episodes are any indication, the answer will be no. Why?
Horror tropes, stock characters and like with the 2021 Candyman film, a to on the nose message about social inequality and what not.
Dear screenwriters, stop using “earlier” sequences. The first few minutes show the zombie invasion already happening and one zombie who actually throws a woman on the ground like he’s a wrestler or something before he starts eating her alive. After that sequence where one of the characters, a teen, sees his father, we get the message “earlier” as we going back to the start of the apocalyps. Its a cheap way to get audience captivated, but it sucksWe go to a small town where a fracking company has set up shop to drill. They put it on pretty thick that the fracking and zombies rising are somewhat connected. plus when a woman from the company in episode two shows up, along with a armed escort, than you know that the creators don’t know what they are doing. like i said earlier. Stock characters, using every cliché in the book on people from small towns are like.
George Romero wasn’t perfect, but at least he knew how to make it interesting. They clearly don’t.
