last week Amazon released the final episode of The Expanse season 6. Season 6 was only 6 episodes where it is usually 10-13 episodes a season. 

Overall view

I loved the show. The show was based on 9 books of the same name. Each season sealed with each book. 

What was refreshing is that even scientists are saying that the space ships are grounded in actual science, meaning that the physics of how interplanetary travel holds true to the laws of physics. The space combat are also amazing. Don’t expect anything like in Star Wars or Star Trek here.

The show itself is often compared to Game of Thrones but set in space. Except for the protomolecule, there are no aliens there. The protomolecule is the first extrasolar object that humanity comes across. 

James Holden, Born on Earth but his heart belongs in space. He is thrust into the UN-Mars-Belt conflict. He is the leader of the rocinante.

Naomi is a Belter, someone who was born and raised in the Asteroid Belt, hence they call themselves Belters. Their language is a mix of African and English. The belt is exploited by both Mars and UN. They want independence but neither planets want to give it to them.Naomi used to be a revolutionary but now she happy to run salvage missions or cargo runs before she and her crew are thrust into the conflicts of Mars-UN.Later is revealed that she had a son that she left with his father and that she regretted it ever since. She and James fall in love. They break up but get back together again.

Chrisjen Avaserala is a true politician but with her heart in the right place. At first she is loyal to Earth and the UN but the protomolecule changed all that. 

Alex is the pilot who was former Martian navy. He still loves his planet but found a new home with the crew of the Rocinante. He still misses his family though that he left behind on Mars. 

Amos is the grunt but also the soldier who follows orders. He has a bad past that he wants to run away from. He is loyal to James and Naomi and doesn’t really concern him about what is happening except how to get out of it alive along with his crew. 

Later seasons introduced other characters like Camina Drummer and Bobbie Draper who become major characters. 

Honestly I haven’t read the books myself. So I can’t say if the show is accurate. But no show can be accurate when it comes to adapting a book or books to tv format or even movie format. 

The political plots, to the interpersonal relationships, they know how to balance correctly. The first theee seasons were on the Scify channel but after the cancellation Amazon prime picked it up and ran it for another three seasons. Now with the conclusion of the series, it’s now unclear wether or not there will be a continuation of the show in any form to conclude the plots of Laconia or the Ring entities? That remains to be seen.I hope that they do make the last three books in to a series to do it justice.

Overall I loved this show. In my opinion it belongs to the greatest like Battlestar Galactica (2003), Babylon 5, hell even Space; Above and Beyond (which was ahead of its time). I can recommend it.

Now the show has ended, I do think I want to read the books to see how it all ends.
