This is my blog where I write stuff that interest me: religion, politics etc…

the 8th of may

Today is the the 8th of may and its on this day in 1945. On this day we celebrate the official acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender of its armed forces on Tuesday, May 8, 1945. Adolf Hitler, the Nazi leader, had committed suicide on April 30 during the Battle of Berlin when the Soviet Union’s Red Army liberated the city from its fascist rulers. Some 80,000 Soviet soldiers lost their lives in that battle, adding their numbers to the 25 million Soviet citizens who perished in World War II. On the Western front, the U.S. lost more than 400,000 soldiers. Soldiers and civilians numbering more than 80 million died around the world during the horrific war.The news of the surrender reached Stalin on the 9th of may, which is why in the USSR and later in all former USSR republics, the victory day, the day of remembrance is held on the 9th.

With the use of cocnentration camps where people came in, but rarely left the place alive (because it wasn’t designed that way). The first people to enter those camps were communists, political opponents, union people. Jews came later. More so, the camps were ideal for certain companies to explot free labor without having to pay anything. Medical experiments were done on them.

Not everyone who worked with the nazi’s got punished. Some companies are still around today. Not all people got punished either. The scientists who developed the V2 missile went to the US and later developped the rocket that would take the US to the moon.

Millions dead, milions more traumatized by the war. Ukraine had its share of bloodbaths. Nazi soldiers had orders to kill every jew (men, women, children, )Not a decade earlier Ukraine had the holodomir. Even so, in the USSR alot of people died. Stalin was caught of guard by the attack because he believed that Hitler wouldn’t strike with their pact of non-agression. He was wrong, terrible wrong. Not the first time either. Saint-Petersburg suffered greatly under the blockade. But when the USSR struck back, it did it really hard. They fought back really hard and it was mostly due to the beating the USSR was giving to the nazi’s, that the Allies were able to defeat. Without the USSR, there wouldn’t have been a victory day for the western allies. And to think that Stalin first went to the allied forces to help against Hitler. But they didn’t mind a fascist dictator since they knew that he had set his eyes on the USSR. The destruction of the USSR by Nazi Germany was something that was convenient for them. The loss of life was the price they were willing to pay so that the USSR could be no more.

Why do i bring this up, because we see it happening again in Ukraine/NATO is flirting with Ukraine, offering it a membership, knowing full well that they could expect a reaction of Putin. Ukraine is a ball in a playground with NATO and Russia. If you look at the rethoric of US and UK, you see that peace is not what they want. They want the war to continue. A long war is in their favor. They are not looking for a direct confrontation with Russia, because they also have nukes as does the west. So Ukraine came and it was in their advantage that war took place and might last for a long time, so they fueled it.

Its one thing to support the Ukrainian military, but if peace talks aren’t given a chance, than its going to be difficult to resolve this conflict sooner than later. Like i said, politically, a war between Russia and Ukraine where he gets stuck in like USSR did in Afghanistan and later NATO as well. Economically its in the best interest of the military industrial complex so they can build and sell more weapons than ever. Other companies also profit from it: prices of food, gas, electricity, all go up because of the war. I hope and i want that Russian forces withdraw from Ukraine. This war needs to stop, now, before more lives are lost and more people are traumatized by it.

In Belgium the 8th of may is not recognized as a official holiday anymore due to budget cuts. There were to many holidays in may so companies complained about it and got their way.. Mostly due to the fact that especially in Flanders, the collaborators were put on the same boat as the victims of the war. Which is why it took decades before the one camp in flanders was turned into a museum. Even today Belgium has a fascist problem. Most countries have a fascist problem because the far right (who are mostly fascists as well) have been organising themselves for years now. Ico Maly in his book The New Right documents this and this was further brought to light with Dries Van Langenhove who met Orban in 2018 and while his trial is still pending, he has been elected for the house of representatives in federal parlement for the far right party Vlaams Belang. Vlaams Belang is a far right party with ties to Putin and where most of the politicians are not only far right but also fascists. Not every voter who votes for them is a fascist but some of them are. Dries van Langenhove was in a “youth club called Schild&Vrienden who wanted to infiltrate various layers of society and after the documentary about them and exposed them for who and what they were, they saw their plans ruined. Now the club is disbanded but some of the members are in the other political party called N-VA, which isn’t far right per se, but leans towards it. They exhibit all the typical traits of fascists. And both parties are aiming at 2024 as a turning point for them. So we will have to wait and see how this plays out, but we have alot of work ahead of us to counter their propaganda and their hatred.

With the advance of the far right in the west, we need to hold on to remembering the this day so that we don’t forget the horrors fascism brought us.

May fascism never really makes a comeback.

Never again!
