House of the Dragon is the prequel show to Game of Thrones, set almost 200 years for the events of GoT. The show will depict the events of the succession war between the Targaryen’s. The show is created also by George R.R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire books. This  show is also based on a book.This is a show where you don’t need to see Game of Thrones to be able to follow this since this is a prequel. Its stands alone. 

The show is noted for the several time jumps. The show follows Princess Rhaenyra, the only daughter of King Viserys 1. Since he had no sons, he named her heir of the realm. Which was strange because women aren’t thought of to be rulers of the kingdoms .Princess Rhaenese was not considered “worthy” to be the successor of King Jaeharys. Prince Daemon is the younger brother of King Viserys & someone the hand of the King: Lord Otto Hightower doesn’t want on the throne. Mostly because Daemon is not easily manipulated like Viserys is. Princess Rhaenyra figured it out that Lord Hightower is manipulating her father. She is able to direct her father to dismiss his Hand. But not before the good man was able to seduce the king with his daughter, who was as a close friend of the princess Rhaenyra. When King Viserys announced his wedding to Alicent Hightower,. This created a rift between the friends which was never fixed. To appease her, King Viserys allowed his daughter to chose her own consort, which failed. She couldn’t find a worthy one Prince Daemon, her uncle wanted to marry her but Viserys refused. .In the end, she chose the son of Lord Corleys Verlaryon – who also happened to be gay. His parents knew. Rhaenyra knew. She made a pact with him that allowed them to do what they wanted. But when the babies came out white, Queen Alicent grew suspicious and she was correct. Viserys knew, Lord Corleys knew. But they didn’t care. Viserys only cared about his daughter being happy. This is where the show shined, when the political intrigues are at the forefront. The battle scenes are excellent as always but it’s subservient to the plot. The niece of Viserys also plays a significant role in the show. She is married to Lord Corlys Velaryon of Driftmark. Lord Corleys and Daemon form a alliance against Hightower after he was able to dismiss his request to start a war against the Triarchy. Which they did do and wasn’t really successful until the king decides to aid his brother. But he rebutted his help and was able to break through the stalemate and bring the war to an end. 

Like with GoT, HBO was able to pick good actors here. Matt Smith was excellent as Daemon. Milly Alcock was excellent as the young princess Rhaenyra. Emma D’Arcy was excellent as the older Rhaenyra. Eve Best is excellent and with Steve Toussaint they steal the scenes they are in. The dialogue and acting is top notch. Even of the younger actors. There are scenes in this show where the tension is so high, you can feel it by just watching it. This is a show that I look forward to it. Game of Thrones is still one of my favourites and now House of the Dragon also. 

The theme of the show was a re-used theme of Game of Thrones but slightly altered. Which is a shame. Ramin Djawadi is a excellent composer and good produce a good alternative to this. Still, it’s the only few points that I have found annoying. That, and that the only Asian character plays a whore on the show with a bad accent. The actress does a good job with the material. But it’s rather cliche. Other than that, I enjoyed watching the season. Since they have said there will be 4 seasons. I can’t wait to see the conclusion of this epic show.
