This is my blog where I write stuff that interest me: religion, politics etc…

my devotion to Hades

Well I get that for someone who is new to this might be confusing. For me, I can use the names Haides, Plouton, Aidoneos interchangeably because I’m adressing the same God, not different Gods. Hades had many different names Zeus Khthonios, Plouton, Pluto, Dis Pater, Orcus, Aidoneos, even Hesperos Theos, Enerthera Theos to Theos Khthonios. For more than 15 years I have been an devotee of Aidoneos (Hades). I felt a conenction with Him than with most other Gods during that time. I researched Him a lot and still learn new things about Him. While I do feel He supported me, guided me indirectly like with those two dreams where i saw this shadowy figure standing in the door of my room. He was there, but at the same time, He was also distant.

Understandable considering He is the Lord of the Dead, of all that dwell within His Domain. In ancient Greece and Rome, Hades wasn’t worshipped under Aidoneos or not much even under Hades, but more as Dis Pater, Pluto/Plouton. Last week I tried something else. Instead of offering styrax incense to Aidoneos, why not offer it to Plouton, another name for Aidoneos. The Orphic hymn to Plouton is one I use and I’m pretty sure- as sure as anyone can be- made a real connection with Him under the name Plouton. Plouton/Pluto was most frequently used as a sorth of euphemism as He is the God of Riches. Perhaps I should do this more and use Plouton instead of Aidoneos and see if I can foster this relationship more through this?

It is always fun to learn new things or find out another way to come into contact with the divine. Lately I can have dreams where the Gods make their presence known through their known attributes. This weekend, i had a dream where I woke up terrified but was able to calm down real fast. For me it was clear that it was Plouton who had let me know that He was watching me. Contact with the divine can be frightening to say the least. And with a God who is master of Dreams and of the Dead and all inhabitants in the Hades, you can bet on it, it will be more frightening.

Aidoneos/Plouton came to me along with Hekate and Persephone during a time in my life where i needed them and they were there to help me, guide me. The connection with Hades was always the strongest. For that, I always will be a devotee to Plouton.

This was beautiful. Hail Plouton! Hail Persephone, and Hekate!

There’s a whole etiquette to engaging with the Gods, which we sure aren’t going to pick up from the culture at large. It can be confusing, scary, and transformative but the Gods are understanding and patient, much more than one might infer from a casual reading of the myths. (Though in fairness those stories tend to focus on pretty extreme examples; missing an offering isn’t really comparable to murdering one’s parents, for instance.)

Unfortunately we don’t have the structures and support they did in antiquity, so we have to figure that etiquette out ourselves, often by fumbling around in the dark and experimenting with different things, some of which we discover work, and some we find out the hard way do not.

I think this dream contact is a very strong sign that you’re on the right track, and I’m excited for you to see where it leads.

Yes that is very true. We don’t have the structures or all the info the ancient Hellenes had, but that is ok. We work with what we have and stumble around until we come across a connection
