its been almost two months now since the events of the 7th of oktober where Hamas and other terrorist groups attacked colonies of Israel near Gaza, killing and abducting people, but they also attacked a music festival where they killed and abducted people. This led to an all-out war between Israeli army and Hamas and other terrorist groups.

This event is a tragedy for everyone involved, for families and friends of people who died of were abducted that day. As to why it happened? Well, look no further than the 74 years of occupation to find a reason. Does this mean its ok to kill and abduct people? No it does not. It goes give insight into the why it happened. The history of violenc between Palestinians and Israeli goverment can not be ignored here. Its an important factor here. However stating this does not mean approval of what happened. Similar like criticism on the Israeli state is not equal to anti-semitism. Anti-semitism is used here by Israeli goverment to quell any criticism because no one wants to be called anti-semitie. Criticism on Israel is not equal to criticism on Jewish people. Israel like the USA has an human rights issue concerning Palestinians.

In the days following the attack, Israel amassed its troops near Gaza for an offensive. They started bombing first before sending in troops. The problem here is that Gaza is so densely populated that civilian deaths were unavoidable because of it. Hamas knew very well that this would happen but doesn’t care about it. They know very well that this will result in more recruits who want to continue the bloodshed instigated by them when they attacked Israel on that day. Calling them rebels, resistance would be vert wrong thing to do. It would be naive to think that also. While they aren’t equipped to deal with the army straight on, it doesn’t mean that they should attack civilian targets. They want to instigate fear in Israeli citizens. While the terrorist groups in Gaza are the only ones who have the capabilities to resist, it doesnt make them resistance groups. They drove away any groups that didn’t agree with them like PLO. What Hamas and their allies did that way were crimes against humanity, but what Israeli goverment is doing now is just as bad what happened on the 7th of oktober. This is blind hatred with one goal in mind: extermination of Hamas regardless how many civilians are cought in the crosshairs. Cutting of electricity, water and internet are crimes against humanity. Hospitals need electricity to be able to function and help people. While the 7th of oktober was a shock and awe operation by Hamas, this war against Hamas is just as bad, just worse. Innocent people are hurt, killed on both sides which will only result in the continuation of the hatred and the cycle of hate goes on.

There are reports that Hamas didn’t torture their prisoners and handled them with care. If you think about it, its in their interest that the kidnapped Israelis are taken care of with care and are not tortured or raped. If the goal was to use them as leverage, than it would be very unwise to hurt their hostages. All hostages should be freed. Israel on their side should release all minors that they have in custody. If there is one thing that should be clear: neither Hamas or Israeli goverment are heroes here. They are both villains and Israeli citizens as Palestinian citizens are the victims here because they are cought in the middle. The only difference being that the Israeli goverment can be voted out, while with Hamas this is not the case. This war needs to end before it engulfs the whole mdidle east and destabilise the entire region and perhaps even beyond the region.

While some don’t seem to make the distinction, I do make the distinction between Hamas and Gazans. Not all Gazans are Hamas and Hamas is not Gaza or Palestina just like the goverment and army of Israel is not the entire Jewish people. That distinction is important so we know who we are talking about. Jewish, Israeli people living in the west are not responsible for what is happening. Targeting them is easy but so very wrong. It would be like targeting Palestinians because of what Hamas did. Palestinian and Israeli civilians are the victims here and all this war does is to ensure the hatred towards each other so the cycle of hatred can keep on existing. Breaking that cycle will be very difficult, almost impossible now. While the actions of Israeli goverment is no different than that of Russia since the invasion of Ukraine, the difference being that Israel is an “ally” of the west in the middle east and has the support of the USA. Without the backing of the USA, they wouldn’t get away with what they are doing now. This war needs to be stopped. War serves no purpose for the people. It only serves the interests of those selling and making weapons. They will profit of it while the people suffer. This is true for any war.
