This is my blog where I write stuff that interest me: religion, politics etc…

why worship the divine?

This is a good question as it questions your motives. In the past the worship of the Gods was very reciprocal relationship and in a way its still so. The worship of the Gods was instrumental to secure their world, peace and to make sure that the world didn’t come crashing down on them. Now we know more about our world than 2000 years ago.

Granted the polytheistic worldview is more complex than a monotheistic one. That is my experience at least. The essence of why we worship is the same for a monotheist as for a polytheist. We want to give cultus, grow a relationship with the divine through cultus.

Its through the act of honouring Them, giving offerings, libations, we create a kind of bond with Them, if They want it of course. Not all Gods will be receptive to it, but that doesnt mean that They don’t want it. By reciprocal bond, it is implied, that mortals can ask for stuff, so long as it is reasonable, in my opinion. Through this bond, They create mini miracles each day for us, if we open our eyes to it. We are used to it that with a miracle that it is something big, but it shouldn’t be like that. There is nothing wrong with asking the Gods for help with something. So long as you give something back to Them.

We worship the divine, because They deserve it to be worshipped. They don’t need our worship. I think by worshipping the divine, we feed our souls with a energy that you rarely can find somewhere else. It’s done out of love for the Gods, out of respect. Here is the thing. The Gods chose us. In my humble opinion, They don’t want people being forced to worship Them against their will. People should be free to worship Them if they want to. I think that They have seen that our kind has suffered alot through infighting because of religion and which religion is the true religion or which God is real or not.
