Elections in USA

last week were the presidential elections in USA. It was a choice between Harris, VP with the Biden administration and Trump. It was close but in the end Trump won with 5 million more votes than Harris with the popular vote and with 312 votes in the electoral college.

Problematic start for democrats

Biden at 81 wanted to be re-elected, making him the older candidate and possible oldest president in US history if re-elected. After months of rumors that his mental capacities were in decline, the whole world saw it during the first presidential debate. They tried to cover it up, but the cat was out of the bag. He waited until august to announce to drop out and Harris, his VP came in his stead.

Biden refused at first, but cave in to the pressure. It should be pointed out, that at first he did not want to drop out, creating problems for a democratic victory. So Harris came in. At first, she had the momentum going for her. She wanted to change things, make the wealthy pay more taxes, create more opportunities for people to start their own business, buy their own homes, things that seem to resonated with the votes. So far I know, her economic policies weren’t really known of know much about it. While the right had various podcasts and news outlets like Fox News, Newsmax, democrats only relied on mainstream media and papers and ignored podcasts and such. Which hampered their outreach to the public.

Trump

Trump wanted to be re-elected because he wanted to stay out of prison and he wanted power so he could use it against his enemies. During the election, he was seen as the “youngest” of the two candidates, while he was also to old. Biden and Trump both were to old. But the media followed right talking points and stated that Biden was to old. The moment, Biden dropped out, there was no talk in the media about Trump being to old. During the election, Trump had various court cases to deal with, one where he was convicted. The other cases were delayed to after the election, a move to delay it in the hopes if he won, he wouldn’t be able to be charged and since he was elected again, the cases were dropped. Ironically, during his trail against Stormy Daniels, the right wanted us to feel sorry for this fragile old man sitting in court for 8 hours, farting away. This being the man, who has no mercy for his political opponents, ridicule and insult them on a daily basis.

After he won the first debate against Biden, he wanted to do an another debate. After he lost against Harris, he didn’t want to. He changed his tune very fast that a fighter when won, won’t demand a rematch, which ironically he seem to have forgotten is exactly what he did in June after he won from Biden. Trump’s campaign was marked by outrageous lies and conspiracy theories and even went so far as to use the hurricane tragedy to his advantage as to create distrust in the federal government. It was especially ironically to see that he stated that the democratic government wanted to withhold aid to regions that voted republican, a move he tried to do with the forest fires in Californian when he was president. He continued to claim that there would be voter fraud, setting the stage where he could deny the outcome of the elections if it wasn’t in his favor. There were rumors of him working with the Heritage Foundation that wrote a 900 page manifesto detailing everything from healthcare, women’s autonomy of her own body to porn to be outlawed. In the end, he seems to go with another group that didn’t wrote such a lengthy manifesto but was equally conservative. Trump’s VP pick JD Vance, a man with no morals or opinions except those whispered into his ear by Peter Thiel says enough that the rich are standing Trump this time. With Musk, he found a powerful ally who used X formerly known as Twitter to Trump’s advantage. One disadvantage, one of them, that Trump had, was the decision to overturn Roe VS Wade was very unpopular except with far right and conservative circles. He pretended otherwise and amped up the rhetoric against immigrants and democrats by claiming that Haitian immigrants were eating dogs and cats while no evidence was ever found or given. The woman who claimed that her Haitian neighbors ate her cat retracted her statement after she found her cat alive in the basement. Still, it wasn’t enough to retract it. They kept going at it, to demonize the immigrants. Trump went to various podcasts and news outlets to “talk about whatever though popped up in his feeble mind. In short, Trump is a lying, conniving, sexist, rapist con man who tricked the MAGA to think that he is this tough guy while he threw a tantrum when he lost the elections in 2020 and claimed that Harris was a marxist communist fascist. Anyone knowing what these terms are and mean, will immediately know that he is talking out of his ass. But MAGA seem to believe every word he says, even if he contradicts himself earlier. MAGA is a cult and Trump is their leader. Its peculiar to see that ordinary Americans think that a self proclaimed rich con man like Trump would ever do anything for them. The tariffs he proposed will rise costs in the country. He wants to get rid of taxes for the wealthy, meaning that the ordinary Americans will have to pay more to substitute for the loss of revenue. Trump claims that he would end the Ukraine war and the conflict in Gaza are ridiculous. He even went as far as to claim that it would be antisemitic to not vote for him.

His last rally in NY was a disaster for him. While the media focused on the failed joke of roast comedian Tony Hinchcliff, the media seem to ignore what was said by other speakers like that Harris was the devil and the other side should have been wiped out. Violent hate rhetoric where the Trump campaign did not had to answer for, but did for the jokes. The media made a big deal about Biden talking that the supporters of Trump were garbage but ignored the violent hate speech at Trump rally. Biden’s statement was wrong. It was correct to condemn it. But to ignore the hate speech at Trump rally is bit hypocritical to me.

Why did Trump win?

Well if you look at Harris campaign that stated that everything is going well with the economy and didn’t want to change any of the policy of the Biden administration meant that the American people will have to endure another 4 years of the same. They wanted change. They wanted a policy that helped ordinary Americans. This was choosing between the plague and the cholera, like in 2016.

Most Americans can not afford to rent and are living of paycheck to paycheck to make ends meet. The costs like everywhere else has gone up. In short, the working class was struggling. Most Americans are working 2-3 jobs to get by. In this climate, more and more Americans are unionizing as a means to improve their working conditions.

Its going to be anyone’s guess if under Trump this will continue? Trump is known to be anti-union. Americans wanted change and they will get change but I doubt that they will like it when it hits them was is going down. Trump appointment of noted antivaxxer RFK JR will make things even more difficult concerning healthcare in the states. Trump plans to remove political agents within the government means that anyone not doing his bidding will be fired. Trump’s appointment of Musk in the government spells disaster for the workers and various departments that are in the way of any company. This could spell disaster for parks, wildlife, native Americans if they are on land that holds minerals or oil. Trump’s plan to remove undocumented immigrants will cost a lot and spell disaster for many people.

The democrats had problems trying to convey their message that they should be reelected because Trump is bad. We all know that Trump is bad, but if they didn’t give a decent alternative, why would the people vote for them? That is the problem that democrats had. They relied to much on money instead of talking and listening to what voters said. With 52% of the popular vote, its not a clear victory for Trump seeing that Harris had 48% of the votes. It shows a very divided country, a situation that Trump created. The MAGA crowd might be loyal to Trump, it doesn’t mean that the rest of those who voted for him will be. If the left manages to organise itself again and becomes a counter movement against Trump and MAGA, they could turn things around and make things difficult for Trump. The democrats will have to step away from the corporate ladder and reinvent themselves if they want to stay relevant. At the moment they don’t seem to learn the lesson from this defeat and want to blame the voters, which is alwasy a bad choice and shows you haven’t learned anything. Americans as the rest of the world are heading towards dangerous times.
